A Fusion of Scandinavian Design with Japanese Elegance by Norm Architects and Kvadrat Textiles

A Harmonious Blend of Design and Textiles

In the world of contemporary dining, this Michelin-starred restaurant is more than just a place to enjoy a meal—it's an experience that marries the sensory elements of food, design, and ambiance. At Restaurant ÄNG, this harmony is elevated to new heights by the expert hands of Norm Architects in collaboration with Kvadrat Textiles. Located in the heart of Copenhagen, ÄNG invites guests into a serene space that balances minimalism with warm textures, creating a dining experience where aesthetics are as vital as the flavors on the plate.

A Minimalist Masterpiece by Norm Architects

Norm Architects, known for their calm and minimalist aesthetic, have perfected their design language at ÄNG. Their philosophy revolves around balance, purity, and refined simplicity. Upon entering, guests are greeted by soft muted tones, natural materials, and clean lines.

The dining area is an open space, designed to minimize visual clutter. Simple yet comfortable furniture pieces form the backbone of the restaurant’s layout, fostering people into an airy ambiance. Wooden tables and stone surfaces tie the aesthetic to nature and an organic feel. But while the furniture and architecture exude simplicity, the subtle details elevate the entire space.

Kvadrat Textiles

Softening Minimalism with Luxurious Fabrics

The collaboration with Kvadrat, a Danish brand celebrated for its high-quality textiles, adds an essential layer of texture and warmth to ÄNG’s minimalist core. I personally had the pleasure of attending a workshop by Kvadrat, learning about their philosophy and production process. Here is an insight on some of their textiles.

Materials

In the restaurant, textiles are used  accordingly to introduce comfort and a visual softness to the space. Kvadrat upholstery wraps the seating in muted, earthy tones, while their acoustic panels contribute to a peaceful dining environment by absorbing sound and reducing noise. These subtle elements enhance the overall dining experience, enriching comfort and functionality.

Kvadrat’s use of sustainable materials aligns with modern eco-conscious design. Their soft hues bring warmth and high quality, making the space both visually appealing and inviting to touch—a perfect blend of minimalism and comfort.

A Reflection on Modern Scandinavian Design

Restaurant ÄNG is a beautiful reflection of modern Scandinavian design, where functionality, minimalism, and comfort are met. Norm Architects’ skill in blending timeless and modern design, along with Kvadrat’s expertise in textiles, has created an interior that feels organic, welcoming and cohesive. For those who appreciate design as much as they do fine dining, ÄNG  offers a unique and enriching experience.
