The Iconic Influence of Kelly Wearstler on Modern Interior Design

A Visionary Approach to Design

Kelly Wearstler’s design philosophy revolves around the fearless combination of color, texture, and form. Unlike the minimalism that dominated much of the design world in the early 2000s, Wearstler has always embraced maximalism. And it’s done seamlessly. It’s truly refreshing to see bold designers express their personal style through design, rather than following the same old trendy, minimal, and repetitive interiors that dominate social media today. Why Kelly Wearstler Still Reigns Supreme In a world that’s often obsessed with the minimalist look, Kelly Wearstler's defiance of trends is exactly what keeps her at the top.

Redefining Luxury

In the world of Kelly Wearstler, luxury is not just about opulence or high-end materials; it’s about creating spaces that evoke emotion and ignite the imagination. Whether it’s through custom furniture pieces, sculptural lighting, or daring art choices, she elevates design into an experience that resonates on a personal level.

Breaking Boundaries in Hospitality Design

Projects like the Avalon Hotel in Beverly Hills and the Viceroy hotels are transforming luxury hotels into immersive art experiences. Her work redefined the hospitality industry by proving that hotels could be not only comfortable and luxurious but also visually captivating and thought-provoking spaces. Some of her iconic projects are the Four Seasons Anguilla, Santa Monica Proper as seen below and the Downtown Los Angeles Proper.

The climate, history and iconography of its namesake city was the inspiration for the design identity of the property and its inherent storytelling.

Furniture Collection: Art Meets Functionality

Known for her creative use of materials, innovative shapes, and sculptural designs, Wearstler’s furniture pieces transform spaces and set trends across the industry. Each piece in her collection is a masterclass in balancing form and function, blurring the lines between furniture and art.

Iconic Pieces and Signature Style

One of the standout features of Wearstler’s furniture collection is her ability to take inspiration from different eras and cultures, blending them seamlessly into contemporary designs. Her collections are often a mix of mid-century modern influences, ancient design motifs, and raw, organic shapes.

For example, her Roxbury Chair combines sleek lines and curves reminiscent of the Art Deco era, while her Liaison Console Table features geometric forms paired with natural stone finishes. These pieces not only make a statement but also feel timeless, fitting into various interior styles while adding an artistic, high-end touch. Below are some of my personal favorites.

BUTT STOOL

“Conceptually playful, the Butt Stool is hand-carved from natural stone and transformed into sculptural furniture reminiscent of human forms.”

MORRO SIDE TABLE

“The hand-carved Morro Side Table exemplifies modernity through geometric simplicity and form.”
